Women in Turkey protest violence against women after brutal murders | DW News

Hundreds of women took to the streets of Istanbul to protest against femicide following a string of violent killings. Demonstrators accuse Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of failing to address violence against women and girls. Last week, a man beheaded a 19-year-old woman and threw her head from a building in front of her mother. He butchered another young woman to death a short time earlier. Violence against women is widespread in Turkey. There have been around 300 victims of femicide there so far this year.
